Gary Mullard

In Memory of Gary Mullard

The industry was saddened to learn of the loss of industry legend Gary Mullard (1932-2022), founder of Northern Stone Supply. In the early 1950s, Gary sold pick-up loads of stone hand picked from the California desert. He eventually found and fell in love with the beautiful quartzite being quarried near Oakley, Idaho. In 1972, he purchased mining claims from the Kent Hale family on Middle Mountain south of Oakley and Northern Stone Supply, Inc. was officially formed.

Gary claimed he had an early childhood connection to nature and stone. His career was centered around the advancement of natural stone as the perfect environmentally friendly sustainable building material. His passion for excellence and quality shaped his company from the beginning to be a leader in the natural stone building market.

A huge supporter of the Natural Stone Institute, Gary was also a founding member of the Natural Stone Foundation’s Leadership Society at the Diamond Level. The Mullard family and Northern Stone Supply team has requested that donations be made in Gary’s memory to the Natural Stone Foundation.

Gifts to the Natural Stone Foundation provide funding for scholarships, important industry initiatives, and educational resources. Together with your help, Gary’s memory will live on.
