NSI Member Update: Silica Safety

We are committed to keeping our members updated regarding the changing regulatory and public health issues relating to silicosis. To that end, we have scheduled a webinar to cover some of the more recent developments you need to know. In this webinar, you will learn more about Natural Stone Institute (NSI) steps to continue to provide worker training resources and scientific research.
Key Background:
The NSI Board took significant steps at the June meeting to address the silicosis and the related public health issues by approving proposals from two firms—the David James Group (DJG) and Environmental Health & Engineering (EH&E). DJG will help extend our message to the media and support our advocacy and fundraising efforts. EH&E will provide leadership on silicosis scientific, occupational safety and public health issues that will help support our advocacy and communications plans. Industry veterans will remember EH&E for their industry support during the radon crisis. Additionally, the NSI will continue to consult with the Yale School of Medicine and advance the many fabricator guidance documents to further advance employee safety.

- NSI's Science and PR approach and how to support those efforts
- Staff update on NSI’s Advocacy efforts with Cal/OSHA, including an update on the status of regulatory developments and future testimony.
- Additionally, you’ll hear about the state of silicosis testing efforts, the latest epidemiological data and plans for future scientific approaches on this issue.
