Course Description:

A myriad of published standards exist which govern the design fabrication, attachment, and installation requirements of natural stone. Most of these standards are “voluntary standards”, in which case they may or may not be specified for a given project. The Masonry Society’s TMS 402/602 standards are different since they are referenced by the building code, which makes them mandatory standards. The Code (TMS 402) covers the design and construction of masonry structures while the Specification (TMS 602) is concerned with minimum construction requirements for masonry in structures. While the scope includes varying types of masonry products, at least a portion of the documents pertain to Natural Stone. This webinar will clarify what portions of the documents apply to natural stone installations and what the basic requirements are for code compliance when adhering natural stone products.

Learning Objectives:

  • Clarify what sections of the TMS documents pertain to natural stone.
  • Acquire a general understanding of the minimum and maximum limitations for adhering natural stone veneers.
  • Understand how to obtain copies of these two publications.
  • Develop an appreciation as to how the building code influences public safety.
