Types of Natural Stone Institute Membership

Definition of Natural Stone
For the purposes of Natural Stone Institute membership, natural stone refers to materials that are quarried directly from their in-situ position in the earth and cut or processed without altering the natural fabric of the material.

 

Full Company Membership Eligibility

Full Company Membership is available to businesses that fall within the industry sectors listed below. This membership includes the full range of NSI benefits for all employees at the registered location. Each Full Member may designate a primary representative to serve as the key contact and voting representative for the company.

Note: Companies with multiple locations must register each additional location under a Branch Membership to extend benefits to those offices.

Eligible Industry Sectors:

• Quarrier: Companies that extract stone from its in situ position in the earth.
• Stone Fabricator: Companies that process and refine building stone products. Excludes Countertop Fabricators.
• Countertop Fabricator: Companies that fabricate and/or install from slab material.
• Stone Distributor: Companies specializing in the sale of building stone products such as landscape, paving, and veneer materials, excluding slab and tile.
• Slab Distributor: Companies that sell slab and tile materials.
• Commercial Installer: Companies that install interior and exterior stone flooring or cladding for large-scale commercial or residential projects. They may also install countertops but not exclusively.
• Masonry Contractor: Companies that install building stone for applications including landscaping and veneer.
• Restoration/Maintenance: Companies performing restoration, repair and/or maintenance for natural stone.
• Supplier to the Industry: Companies who provide non-stone products and/or services to natural stone companies including machinery, tools, chemicals, setting materials, and business tools.
• Consulting Firm: Companies offering sourcing, forensic analysis, or other consulting services to stone companies, design professionals, or consumers.

Cost: $1,100 annually

Branch Membership Eligibility

Branch Membership is available to additional offices or locations of Full Company Members seeking access to NSI resources, recognition, and tailored support.
Note: Each branch must be registered separately. Branch Members receive access to most member benefits but are non-voting.
Eligibility is based on the same industry sectors listed under Full Company Membership.

Cost: $200.00 annually per location

Individual Affiliate Program Eligibility

Our Individual Affiliate Program is a non-voting option offering limited benefits. It is available to individuals who are not actively employed by a company eligible for Full Company Membership but who are interested in supporting and engaging with the natural stone industry.
