Natural Stone Embodied Carbon Research

Join the Natural Stone Institute and member companies to review recent embodied carbon research. This includes learning about Industry-Wide Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) that cover stone flooring, cladding, and countertops. These EPDs showcase natural stone’s low embodied carbon compared to manmade materials. Attendees will walk away with identifiable ways to reduce embodied carbon in future projects including identifying ways of incorporating natural stone into their projects.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the Industry-Wide Environmental Product Declarations for natural stone flooring, cladding, and countertops.
  2. Analyze what impacts are included within each part of the life cycle scope and how natural stone companies are tracking data.
  3. Compare natural stone’s embodied carbon to other building materials including terrazzo, pre-cast concrete, and engineered quartz.
  4. Identify ways to reduce the embodied carbon of building projects by altering natural stone specifications and/or substituting lower embodied carbon products for higher embodied carbon products.

Program Length: 60 minutes
